Egypt Packing Guide: What to Wear for 8 Days in Egypt

Packing for Egypt can feel overwhelming if it’s your first trip — do you bring swimsuits, long dresses, headscarves, sandals? The answer really depends on where in Egypt you’re going.

This guide is geared toward my 8-day Egypt itinerary, but it can be easily adapted for shorter or longer trips.

At the beach or resort towns you’ll be totally fine in swimsuits, sarongs, and resort wear. It’s relaxed and beachy, so pack your bikinis, cover-ups, and fun evening outfits.

Cairo feels completely different. Here you’ll be most comfortable in long pants or skirts and tops that cover your shoulders. It’s also smart to keep a light scarf with you at all times. If you want to visit a mosque, covering your hair is required, and having a scarf handy makes it easy.

Even though I’m sharing a full packing list, my top recommendation is to shop once you arrive in Egypt. The local fashion scene is amazing, with a mix of unique local designers and luxury brands.

Fun fact: during summer, the malls on the North Coast stay open until about 4:00 a.m. — the shopping culture there is next level.
